Self-Developing LeakTracers for Piping Systems: FA-1A and GA-1A
These concentrated liquid tracers contain corrosion
inhibitors, chelating agents, mold inhibitors and water soluble powders
which dry on the outside of a leak, showing the exact point and extent
of the leakage long after the water evaporates. They were formulated to
mix instantly in water or water/glycol solutions (and are often used to
find coolant leaks). Both tracers can easily be removed with a dry
cloth. FA-1A has a strong yellow-green fluorescence under UV (400nm)
light. When the powder is dry, the fluorescence fades but the yellow
powder is clearly visible. GA-1A is a clearly visible green indicator.
When mixed one part to 25 parts of water, FA-1A can find a leak as small
as 1x10-4 and GA-1A a leak as small as 1-10-3 cc/sec. (ASTM 9.3.4). When
used to monitor a water or coolant piping system, 1% by volume can be
used. (ASTM 9.3.4).

F-trace and R-trace (Concentrate):
F-Trace (yellow) and R-Trace (red) were developed by Rockwell to
meet their need to test aircraft fuel tanks. They are an inexpensive,
non-corrosive and non-flammable way to test large tanks (lines and
pipes), including those which will contain hydrocarbons, such as
gasoline, diesel or jet fuel. Either can be used as a fluorescent tracer
with a 400nm UV light or can be used as a visible tracer. Dilute 1
gallon tracer to 99 gallons of de-ionized water. The tracers incorporate
surface/interfacial tension additives that allow them to find leaks as
small as 10-5 std cc/sec. The tracers are biodegradable and have a low
sulfur and halogen content, so they work well with high performance
metals such as stainless, nickel, aluminum and magnesium. (ASTM 9.3.4) |

Water Leak
Detector - Warm Water Leaks or Low Humidity PiNPOiNT WDP-217
aerosol & PiNPOiNT WDP-218 paint:
These are color change developers, which, when placed
on the points of suspected leaks (joints, welds, connections)
form a white powder coating. On contact with even very small
water leaks they undergo an irreversible blue-green color change
at the exact point of the leak. The powder can
easily be removed with a damp cloth. Condensing humidity can
cause false indications so it is best used with warm water or in
low humidity applications. (ASTM 9.3.2.1 Visibility
Enhancer).

Water Leak Detector - Color Water Leaks in a
Humid Atmosphere: a 2-part system
HYDRO-1 and HYDRO-2
Hydro-1 is a color change developer sprayed on the outside of a
potential leak site. Hydro-2 is a liquid tracer which goes into
solution with the test water. Hydro-2 causes a visible color
change from orange to purple when it comes in contact with the
Hydro-1 developer. Use for testing of large tanks, vessels,
complex piping systems, flexible containers and systems that
inherently contain or will contain water. It can also detect
leaks in valves, fittings and welds. It is formulated to prevent
false indications due to high moisture in the air or cold piping
that can condense water on its surface. Taking photographs of
the test results makes work easy to substantiate.

This is a highly
fluorescent (MIL-I-25135 group VI +) water washable penetrant which can
be diluted with up to 30% water to provide a very sensitive, easily

Color Change Leak Detection Paper for Water: W-15A & W-15A-M
W-15A sensitized paper leak detection monitors for water are
available either self adhesive or not. They can be cut in strips
and placed under or around a potential leak site. They can be
used inside water-proof containers, such as electrical switch
boxes, to detect if moisture is getting in. These monitors are
sensitive to small water leaks. The color change upon sensing
water is from white to green. Each sheet is individually sealed
and packed 12 sheets to a carton.

Tel-Tox Color Change Water WRAPS
These are intended to be wrapped around a connection (large
or small) that might be leaking. If it is leaking an extreme
visible color change (from white to green) will occur at the
point of the leak, making it easy to see where the leak is
coming from. Wraps work right out of the package - there is no
activation required. Each strip is 10" in length, has adhesive
at each end, and they are individually sealed and priced and

Ultrasonic Leak Detector (Sonic 3000):
This detector
can quickly and easily spot leaks as small as Ix10-2 std cc/sec. This is
a decade smaller than required by the ASTM standard. The Sonic 3000 can
be used either with pressurized air or with its sound generator as an
alternate to hydrostatic testing. It can be conveniently used as a quick
precheck before the more time consuming hydrostatic test is performed
(ASTM 10 Pretest).
